Latest news from director Dan Bateman ahead of this afternoon's match against Bedfont Sports FC #SUMAS

Good afternoon, everyone and welcome to Lowther Road for this Saturday’s fixture against high flying Bedfont Sports FC.
What can I say about the last week? Faced with 5 games in 9 days and 5 points adrift at the bottom of the league we needed to find a monumental effort from the players and newly formed management team to give us a chance going into the final week of the season and boy did they deliver. A great win away to Virginia Water was the start followed by a narrow defeat at home to Broadfields which left us facing 3 difficult games in 4 Days. Against Reading City last Saturday, we were excellent and only robbed of 3 points by a very contentious linesman decision. Quite how an own goal can be ruled out for offside I don’t know, a decision made even more surprising with the player not actually being offside anyway! We then on Monday night came up against very good Burnham FC side and were put to the sword however found a way to pick ourselves up just 24hrs later and put in an excellent performance to beat Risborough Rangers 3-1. A 7-point return in Darrens first week in charge has not only given us a chance but it has moved us out of the relegation spaces and given us a real shot at survival. We now have to do it all again as the fixtures come thick and fast in the final week of the season. Sat, Tue, Thurs, Sat and finally Monday will be tough but now we know if we replicate last week’s return, we will be playing Step 5 football again next season so one final effort from all players, managers and supporters is needed!
The Reserves continue to finish the season strong and last night beat Hartley Wintney reserves 5-0 to move second in the league with 3 games remaining. Next up for the lads is a home game on the 23rd April against 3rd placed Tring Athletic U23s. If you can’t make it to Egham on Tuesday, come down and support the second XI at Lowther Rd.
The U18s went down 2-0 this week at home to Slough Town U18s in the Allied Counties league. Whilst it has been a very difficult season for the young sumas they have kept going and we have seen significant improvements over the season. Next Tuesday 30th sees us host Eversley and California at Lowther rd in the final game of the season.
Last and by no means least the WEFC Ladies team won their last game of the season last weekend 5-2 at home to Wroxton Sports Ladies. This result saw the Sumas ladies finish the season in 3rd position in the league which considering this is a new team in their first season is a great achievement! Well done to Stuart, Shai and all the ladies. You have done the club proud!
I look forward to seeing you all at today’s game and over the final week of the season where I am sure the lads will get the outcome they all deserve.
SUMAS!!
Dan
