A harsh outcome for the Sumas

The Sumas unbeaten run came to an end, as they were beaten 3-0 by promotion pushing North Greenford United in a game which on another day, could have produced a very different result. Missed chances, and decisions that went against them, all played their part in handing the Sumas a first defeat since losing to Spelthorne at the beginning of February.

The hosts started on the front foot and deservedly took the lead when a goal kick came straight back at the Sumas, and the North Greenford attacker coolly slotted past Woodward to open the scoring.

This seemed to wake the Sumas up a bit, and they began to threaten the opposition goal towards the end of the half, as Parkes fired numerous efforts towards goal - the best chance sliced over from close range, with the ball bobbling up from the pitch.

The Sumas started the second half well, with the wind behind them. Parkes had another 1 on 1 chance but this time the goalkeeper prevented him from netting his first Sumas goal.

The hosts had a great chance to extend their lead but Woodward saved well initially, then scooped the ball off the line before vital blocks finally cleared the ball away.

The turning point and the end to the Sumas dominance came when captain Joe Cummuskey was sin binned following complaints to the referee, and the Sumas were temporarily reduced to ten men.

Despite the disadvantage, the Sumas were inches from an equalizer when Brandon Curtis took on the entire backline, before smashing the ball against the bar.

Curtis was soon in on goal again, and this time was dragged back by the defender, not given by the officials. Following this, Curtis was sinbinned and the Sumas were once again down to ten.

With the Sumas chasing the game, North Greenford United punished the lack of numbers at the back with two late goals, and the game finished 3-0. Although the Sumas may feel like they did enough to take points back to Wokingham, they left empty handed and attention now turns to Tuesday's home clash with Abbey Rangers.
