Sumas knocked out of FA Cup

Two late goals from Ardley United prevented the Sumas progressing to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

Despite the Sumas leading 2-1 with minutes left on the clock, a late penalty and a goal from a corner saw the hosts come out victorious.

As they did on Tuesday night, the Sumas conceded an early goal, as Ardley punished a sloppy touch in the Sumas own half, firing past Woodward despite Callum Eagle's best efforts to block the shot.

A good turn from Nathan Mindomba set up Jack Webb soon after, but his shot was turned out for a corner by the Ardley goalkeeper.

After a smart Woodward save with his feet, the Sumas then equalized as Webb's cross was floated in to Allen Bossman who made no mistake with his close range header.

Just before half time the Sumas took the lead, and Bossman grabbed his second of the afternoon with a great curling finish into the far corner.

The Sumas failed to gain any attacking momentum going down the hill in the second half, and their only real chance was Bossman's blocked effort as he looked to seal his hat trick.

Olly Noyes and Musa Drummeh were brought on to bring some energy to ge tthe Sumas over the line, but Ardley equalized when Ellis Riley was penalised for a strong tackle in the box. Woodward was sent the wrong way and the tie looked as if it was going to a replay.

Deep into added time Will Shaw was shown a straight red card for a lunging tackle and the afters that followed.

In a half that seemed it would never end, in the tenth minute of injury time the hosts headed in a corner at the back post to win the game.

The Sumas are back in league action next Saturday, away at Edgware & Kingsbury.
